JOLT is a Racing / Platformer / Party game hybrid, where players can create their own robot and then compete online up to 4 players in frantic racing action.
The game is available on PS4, Wii U, Steam and Switch.
The game was developed by Cooply Games and during its development; aside from outsourcing the sound, all of the content was made by myself and a programmer. I was the sole designer and created the concept, the gdd and all levels. I was also the sole artist so I created all the assets, animations and UI elements. This is definitely something I'm really proud of; however, we were struggling to maintain development and I left once the game went into early access to start at TT Games.
JOLT focuses on platforming racing, where the player who leads dictates the camera. If a player falls behind (and consequently off-screen) they are eliminated.
The game features two main mechanics; the JOLT and the VOID. The JOLT is a charged boost that can be used to jump ahead, activate traps or use shortcuts. The VOID is a post-elimination revenge mechanic, that randomly generates power-ups to inflict upon the remaining racers.
The game has multiple game modes that make use of these mechanics, including a Light Mode (where the player in first position has a light attached to them) and The Eliminator (where every player is placed on to a conveyor belt and must dodge objects to not get crushed).
